ALDI MiniRoo Coaching Spotlight

What is it like to be an ALDI MiniRoos coach?

We reached out to coaches Nina Sallenave of Forest Killarney Football Club, and Ola El-Zahab, Vice President of Greenacre Eagles FC to discuss coaching, their favourite Caltex Socceroo and Westfield Matildas and their ideal coaching superpower!

What is your name and club?

Nina Sallenave. Forest Killarney Football Club.

Favourite part of being an ALDI MiniRoos coach?

Definitely is to see kids fall in love with the game. Every week they show me new skills that they have learned, or they talk about a game they’ve watched or how they are playing with their siblings in the backyard. It is totally worth it.

Why should people be involved in MiniRoos both as a Game Leader/Coach and as a player?

When people get involved they have fun, their kids have fun and they help to put together something great. Soccer has a wonderful and powerful way to unite people.

Favourite Caltex Socceroo and Westfield Matilda?

Caltex Socceroo - Charlie Yankos. For the great goal against Argentina in 1988.

Westfield Matilda - the whole 2019 squad.

If you could have any coaching superpower, what would it be and why?

I would like the power of making kids totally focus for one hour!

Favourite part of being an ALDI MiniRoos Coach?

My favourite part about being an ALDI MiniRoos Coach is seeing the joy that football brings to a child life, especially when a child comes to a MiniRoos training session full of smiles energy and excitement.

Why should people be involved in MiniRoos both as a Game Leader/Coach and as a player?

The ALDI MiniRoos program is a great way of introducing football to children for the first time it also give opportunity to adults to get involved and build there confidence to become future MiniRoos coaches. Programs like this build communities and connect people together, creating life time bonds and friendships.

Favourite Caltex Socceroo and Westfield Matilda?

My favourite Caltex Soccerroo is Mathew Ryan and favourite Westfield Matilda is Samantha Kerr.

If you could have any coaching superpower, what would it be and why?

If I could have any superpower as a coach it would be to place self belief and confidence in every child's heart.
