North Turramurra struck with Walking Football fever

It was all systems go at the North Turramurra Recreation Area last Thursday 26th of November as players from Northern Suburbs FA, North West Sydney Football and West Epping came together for a special Walking Football Festival.

With three small-sided pitches being utilised and the visiting Football Australia Walking Football ambassadors ex-Matildas star Shona Bass and former Socceroos captain Paul Wade participating, there was both goals and banter in abundance.

“Everyone was so welcoming,” said Bass.

“I really loved that the participants were all so friendly.

“Walking Football is a great way for older participants to stay fit as well as continuing to play the game that we all love.”

Wade joined in on the fun and was impressed with what he saw at the Northern Suburbs precinct.

“That was a lot of fun, the banter and laughter between everyone was great and something that separates our game from every other, well done to all involved.”

NSFA’s Pioneer for Walking Football Ali Hurd was proud of how far this concept has come ever since its inception into the Football family.

“Today’s session was so much fun, with so many participants coming together from different associations to play Walking Football, it really did showcase how special this concept is.”

While finally Football NSW’s Club Development and Participant Coordinator Trevor Huxley agreed that the Walking Football Festival was a smash hit with the participants.

“Walking Football is an inclusive sustainable format, designed for older participants and it was brilliant to see so many people attending, giving it a go, making new friends and most importantly having fun’.
