There are many non-traditional formats of football can be used to engage future participants to the sport.
Clubs are encouraged to either develop or help promote officially endorsed programs.
The national Walking Football programs are run in partnership with Active Ageing Australia and Member Federations offering a social, small-sided & sustainable version of football specifically modified for older Australians, in metropolitan, regional & remote locations.
What is Walking Football?
- It is low-impact, team-based exercise, utilising the defined 'Walking Football Rules and Formats' specifically non-contact with the players ‘always having one foot on the ground’.
- Matches are played with modified formats (5v5/6v6) on smaller pitches with shortened game times
- Walking Football aims to provide participants physical & mental health benefits, social connectedness and promotion of the benefits of ongoing physical activity.

Football Your Way (Women’s and Girls)
Football Your Way - For Women and Girls, is a national program designed to provide tailored programs for women and girls, encouraging inactive women and girls to become physically active. In addition to this, the program aims to develop participants into “influencers” and “role models” to ultimately increase female participation in football beyond the life of the program. The programs aim to promote the physical, psychological, cognitive and social and benefits of physical activity for women and girls.
Football Your Way programs are delivered via the State Member Federations designed to attract three market segments for women and girls;
- Soccer Mums
- Girls United (CALD Women & Girls)
More information of Football Your Way programs will be announced here soon.
